1955 Kay Mfd. Silvertone 1381 Thin Twin  (Kay K161 Variant)

If you are looking for a mid-1950s era Thin Twin that plays fantastically and drop dead gorgeous, this model is both.

100% Factory Stock down to every screw, stunning example of Mid-50s American guitar manufacturing. Representing the top shelf of professional electric guitars that Kay offered, it is collector grade and a pro player. Clean, aside from a light scratch on mid-bout side a few tiny paint nicks and rub marks. The finish is still glossy clean with only minor patina on the hardware. The close-up detailed photos tell the rest.

Kluson tuners are in fantastic working order. The neck is true, the action can go low with zero fretting issues over the entire course. As you can hear in the video, the intonation is spot on even with the stock rosewood bridge. The bridge pole mounts can accept a Tune-o-matic style bridge. The pickups sit around 8k neck position and 7k bridge. Don’t be fooled by the thin pickup covers, these are not lipstick style. Under the chromed metal cover sits a giant coil. These are Kay’s most powerful and best sounding pickups

Tune-o-matic Bridge included as a bonus. Ships in a clean, excellent condition vintage HSC.

The Chronologue is an online database of in- house, hands on gathered specifications for the historical reference of each instrument. Using SLTV gold standards, each instrument we sell is inspected without sacrificing its vintage integrity, guaranteeing it remains 100% factory stock.

Adjustments and cleaning are not performed except dusting for photos. Due to age, instrument will be detuned and bridge may be removed for shipping. A knowledgeable setup may be required.
